i’ve entered the realm of movable type tonight. a few initial teething problems were sorted out by the self-titled mt-meister, and now i just have to sort out templates et al. i think i’ll be on blogger for a while yet!

found this when i was at my mum’s. it’s a self-portrait i did when i was about 17, as part of my a-level art course, for which i ended up with a grade d. i kinda like this pic though — quite proud of the hand holding the bowl. the mouth’s a little askew, but then so is my real mouth.

…and it’s freezing in my flat. i’ve got storage heaters, which build up a reserve of heat overnight and release it during the day, so they won’t start radiating until tomorrow morning. in the meantime i’ve got my little fan heater working up a sweat [though sadly it doesn’t seem to have the same effect on me].

nice load of cards were awaiting my return, containing a grand total of 45 quid — result! [silly people sending real cash in the post though — my granddad in particular cannot seem to accept that i am 26 and have had a bank account for many years. he’s never sent me a cheque, always cash.]

just watched the entire second series of the office*, and have to say it was better than i previously thought. the eps i missed first time round were, ironically**, the funniest imo — the whole motivational seminar build-up and execution was genius.

*courtesy of mrtn and his video recorder. cheers dude!

**and finally, i will be able to read exactly what the dave eggers sense of this is, now i have the page numbers in this, again courtesy of mrtn. hey, he’s doing me a lot of favours lately…what’s he after? ;)

order what you like, and only pay £4.50 p&p — all actual items are free? that’s how they do things at secretspider.com.
mind you, i don’t think i like the idea of using a strong magnet to hold my phone in place. magnet. electronic circuitry. not sure about that.

you know those people who announce what programme is about to start on the telly, e.g. ‘coming up now we have another visit to the office’? is that their whole job? i mean, do they do anything else, or is that it? it always seems to be the same few voices, so it must be a part of what they do, but is that their entire profession? and do they have a script [which may need approval] or do they just ad-lib everything?

so it turns out i was getting slightly ill after all: bit of a sore throat making it hard* to swallow**. still, i had a most excellent weekend, watching ttt [and agreeing with the universal opinion: it rocks] and drinking plenty of wine, bailey’s and sambuca at jo’s housewarming. i really should take a couple of days off from the drinkage, but i’m meeting up with these two excellent chaps this evening.

i’m almost certainly going to see ‘tLotR: tTT’ this afternoon, which is very very exciting.

and this evening i’m going to a friend’s housewarming party, where i shall try my hardest not to make the obvious ‘i’ve brought the matches’ joke. this may be impossible to avoid saying after a couple of hours of drinkage, but we’ve all got to have goals don’t we?

if i knew anything about football i’d be able to make some kind of snide remark about my team’s arch-rivals’ probable lack of goals, but i don’t have a team, nor any arch-rivals [that i know of], and as i’ve said before, i don’t do football.

as a fully paid up member of the mobile phone revolution, being given someone’s home phone number seems like a real honour. because mobiles offer the chance to reject the caller without answering (unless they’re sneaky enough to call from a private line, in which case there’s a certain amount of dare and intrigue, albeit a fairly lame amount in the grand scheme of amountages), giving a person your landline number nowadays contains the intrinsic message “i don’t mind when you give me a call, it’s all good”.

or am i reading too much into it?

digital camera now safely in mum’s custardy custody until christmas day. i did come close to opening it, but in the end i managed to restrain myself. ‘twas quite like that bit when frodo offers galadrial the ring. i went all green and deep-voice, and said scary stuff about being the greatest thingy ever. but i passed the test and so can continue to be queen of lorien. or summink. mmmm, tangental.

i’ve clearly been in the company of my peers for too long. i was watching the countdown final with my mum this evening, having come down to london earlier today. i’m not very good at the ‘letters game’*, so i was quite pleased when i saw a seven letter word. i called it out without really thinking. the word? fisting.

*where you have to make a word of nine letter or less, from nine randomly chosen letters, without repeating any of the chosen letters.

rick, mr head of department himself, has been reading fuddland. at this rate, fuddland readership should be into double figures by, oooo, 2018.
top tip for new readers: see where it says ‘comment’ on the bottom of each entry? click that — then you can leave a comment, kind of like a visitors book in a hotel. say what you like [but remember i have editorial control :P].

tell me, honestly, do i look like the maurice shock medical science building? i know i’ve been putting on a bit of insulation lately, but really, a whole building? i think not.

so why was a heeeeeeuge box addressed to the maurice shock building delivered to my desk today? nope, i don’t know. but i can confirm it weighed 37kg, as i struggled up the stairs to deposit it in the secretary’s office for them to relocate*. not that i have the amazing ability to accurately measure the weight of something by carrying the object in question upstairs. it said it was 37kg on the box. if i was to provide my own guesstimate, i’d have probably said it was ‘heavy’. not in the hippy sense of course, although the entire situation could quite aptly be summed up as ‘heavy, man’. but ‘tis okay. i dealt with.

*not the secretaries, i don’t want them to relocate. they can stay.

yay, my digital camera has arrived. some might say that getting it delivered here instead of to my mum’s place means i secretly know i’m going to open it before christmas day, but those people are completely right going to be proved wrong. i hope.

it’s still difficult to think about doing any fudd-like work. luckily i’ve got lots of marking to do over the holidays, so i can remain busy (and get paid for it too).

i’ve also got round to sorting out presents and cards — including ordering this for myself, a kind of parents-pay-for-most-of-it-and-i-make-up-the-rest deal [i didn’t get it from amazon though, but from these lovely people instead]. will i be able to stave off temptation and not use it until xmas day?
