Fuddland
Today farmers and families here are celebrating (中秋节) — Mid-Autumn Festival. The celebrations have many aspects, but the most important of these seems to be the eating of moon cakes.
The nomenclature is a little misleading as the cakes can be meat- or bean-paste-filled as well as sweet, and to be honest I don’t find them all that palatable. But the extra day off work I get is pretty tasty.

I’d forgotten about moon cakes! MMmmmm… I wish I could eat one right now :)

Re #1: You can have mine. Yesterday we had the disappointment of sitting down with a pot of coffee and opening up a couple of mooncakes, only to discover they were beef-filled ones! Ick.

The red bean ones aren’t exactly what I’d call appetising, either… although the 五任 (crushed nuts with some kind of sweet, sugary powder stuff) flavour is pretty good.

I cannot say I was enamored with moon cakes. Couldn’t manage to finish the tiny one someone gave me at the hotel.
