Newsflash

We interrupt the tales from Jǐuhuá Shān (九华山) to bring you this annoying piece of news from Flickr:

Users in China can’t see images

Since around 12:30pm (Běijīng time) on June 7th, users in China have been unable to view images on flickr.com.

Our technical staff have looked into this and determined that it’s not a technical issue from our end. Evidence suggests that our image servers are being blocked for many users in China.

Fingers crossed it’s just a temporary measure. Coincidentally — or perhaps not — Blogger-hosted weblogs have also just become unavailable again.

Re #1: [I edited your comment to point to your rant.] This morning some of the images on Flickr started to become visible again, but I don’t know how long it’ll last.

Tips? There’s a Firefox extension called Access Flickr! which some people have been using as a workaround, although this could be easily blocked once the powers that be get wind of it.

For more general blocked-site access, proxies such as youhide.com come in handy.

Thanks - linking is fine… The tips are good, but I guess I was thinking more along lines of how to mentally and spiritually adjust to this place, how to channell my negative thoughts into positive thoughts…

Re #3: Ah I see. Well, there are a few ways I suppose. To make your life less frustration-filled, unfortunately you might have to simply accept that you’ll occasionally have to have your browsing habits changed. Your favourite sites might become blocked, and you’ll have to find an alternative [or a workaround]. It’s a fact of life out here. :(

But then, just when you do adjust, they become available again! [Wikipedia seems to be unblocked at the time of writing. When did that happen?]
