More human

Feeling more complete today, having received my replacement cards and PINs, as well as [much to my surprise] a brand new replacement ‘phone from my insurance company.

I’m still not sure if I’ll remain a customer of theirs, having discovered that buried in their Terms & Conditions is the fact that the policy covered the theft of the ‘phone but not of the SIM card. Seriously, how many ‘phone thefts have not also included the theft of the SIM card inside the ‘phone? I’m betting not all that many; it’s a ridiculous clause which cost me £15+VAT to keep my old number — kind of annoying. But having my replacement ‘phone before the end of the week is very nice, so they scored a few points for that.

Which company?

As for phones and replacement SIMs, that’s a pain in the arse, although with the current trend towards phones that sync with PC address books, I can see that they might assume it’s not too traumatic to reload the SIM with all the necessary data. Blah, Blah.

Re #1: Yeah, luckily I’d backed-up my phonebook onto my PC fairly recently so I haven’t lost any numbers.

I originally got my ‘phone and contract [with Orange] through mobileshop.com, which had insurance underwritten by Citymain Administrators Limited as part of the package [£4.59 per month, first three months free, so in total I’ve paid £35.99, including the SIM, for this replacement — some quick checking reveals a new SIM-free one would cost around £200].
