Warming up for my all-out assault on the job scene, but not feeling brave enough to get started on finding and filling-in application forms, I decided to do a bit of networking. A former PhD student of my original supervisor now works for one of the large finance companies, so I sent him a friendly email, briefly describing my current situation and what sort of work I am interested in, and asking if he had any words of wisdom to impart.

I’m not sure what I was expecting from him, but it something along the lines of which books to read, or what phrases to watch out for in job ads, or which hills to head for instead of moving into the financial sector. I certainly wasn’t anything like what I received from him a couple of hours later:

David, come and see me London — we’ll pay expenses.

So it’s gone from a mild application-form-filling-avoidance tactic to a full-blown crap-I’d-better-actually-read-up-on-this-stuff. Eep. 400 pages in just over a week? No problem…

400 pages? No problem. It’s not as if you’ve got a lot of work to do at the moment or anything. ;)
