Ladies in red

Two women, possibly mother and daughter, dressed strikingly in red outfits, standing out from the crowd

These two ladies caught my eye with their striking red outfits as they strolled along by the Thames, and I took a quick snap with the intention of enhancing it later — it’s a bit blurrier than I would have liked due to the failing light and lack of tripod and flash. I gave the whole picture a wash with a faint blue then, highlighting just the women, played with the red values to bring them out further.

What’s more interesting though, was what they did next. A few minutes later I carried on walking by the water, and saw that the women had stopped at a bench, and their two companions had unloaded some camera equipment of their own: a third woman had a professional-looking camera/tripod setup, and a man was holding a camcorder of some description.

Once the cameras were in position, the younger woman strode over to a bench, lay down on it upside-down, with her legs over the back and her head hanging down near the ground, opened a book and pretended to read. Once the still photograph had been taken, she then got up and walked in a semi-circle away from the bench. They repeated this whole manoeuvre in quick succession on several different benches, building up a small crowd as we all wondered what they were doing.

I’ve no idea what the final effect was supposed to be — or if the result was supposed to be the still photo or the video — and of course I lacked the courage to go and ask the older woman who was just watching over everything [and whom I assume was the model’s mother or chaperone]. So if anyone spots any photos or sees a video which resembles this description, do let me know.

How odd. I’m dying to know what it was all about too.
