Distraction

I did have a couple of things I intended to write about once the server move was complete. However, I’m having trouble remembering what they were due to being very distracted by a couple of insect bites I acquired a few days ago.

I’ve got two individual bites, one on each foot [top of left, just below the inside ankle of the right], which suggests they’re the work of a lone mosquito, and by jingo they’re the worst bites I’ve ever had. They itch, ooooh they itch, and this morning the top of my left foot had swollen rather worryingly [to the point where my toes look disproportionately small]. For the last few days I’ve been relying on Anthisan and the wearing of my ankle-high boots to discourage me from scratching [I’ve been very good about this], but it was worse than ever today so I popped into the local chemist and got some hydrocortisone cream for long-lasting relief.

The pharmacist enjoyed quizzing me for a while about whether the bites had become infected and lead to cellulitis, and whilst I assured him they hadn’t got that bad, now I’m not so sure. I’ll see how they look tomorrow, and if there’s no improvement it might mean my first visit to the doctor’s in many a year.

By jingo? Many a year?

I refuse to believe you talk like this in real life.

By jove.

my theory is that you’ve had the heating on full at home, mixing cocktails whilst wearing an hawaian shirt and flip flops. The mozzie thought it was summer all over again felt peckish and just dived in!
hope your feet feel better soon.

Re #1: Pip pip old chap. Didn’t you know I used to be a fighter pilot in WWII? Honestly though, I think I talk almost exactly the same way I write [although perhaps not quite so many bracketed asides].

Re #2: Good guess, but that can’t be it, you know full well I don’t wear Hawaiian shirts. :P

The swelling has gone down considerably this evening so it looks like I’m in the clear. :)

Ankle boots? I bet they’ve got a kitten heel and pointy toes haven’t they? You big jessie ;)

Re #4: Since I have no idea what a kitten heel is but you obviously do, I reckon the joke’s on you. :P

I’m a martyr to mosquito bites (I’m often the only person in the room who gets bitten), so I’ve tried every mosquito repellent/bite soother known to man or woman. None of the repellents worked for me, but I did find one soother that worked. It’s a little piezoelectric device that you use to zap the bite.

To be honest, I’m not sure if the charge numbs your nerve endings, or if the pain from the zapping just distracts you from the itching, but it does work.

You could of course, just wee on it.

Old chap.

Re #6 & #7: Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve been saved having to resort to electro-shock therapy or solo golden showers since the hydrocortisone seems to have done the trick. I still have the bumps but they’re not in the least bit itchy anymore. :)
