Fuddland
It may not have escaped your attention that I have nothing to say for myself this week. My one and only entry in the past seven days has been about something which will prove entirely useless if I never write anything for anyone to comment on.
I could join in the furore over Gmail and privacy, but to be honest I don’t really care if it goes ahead or not. My incoming and outgoing email is scanned by plenty of software already, checking for spam content, and whilst I’ve no plans to sign-up for a Gmail account, I’m not going to not write to people who have a Gmail address just because what I say will be scanned and influence the ads they see.
I might have a little fun and end every message with phrases like, “PS Are you still looking to enlarge your penis? And how is that search for cheap porn DVDs coming along?” but that’s about all I really think about Gmail. I’m not terribly excited about it. Besides, they don’t even test their apparently inaccessible interface in Opera.
Like a million-and-a-half other people I watched “My Foetus” last night, and decided it neither reinforced nor made me question the stance I had before it was broadcast — a good measure of a balanced programme in my opinion. It’s interesting there were 40 complaints [or objections, I suppose we should call them] before the broadcast, but only 10 afterwards. I don’t know if this is down to those that might have objected boycotting the channel and not watching the show, or just finding that it wasn’t going to be as insensitively handled as they thought, but I suspect it’s the latter.

“PS Are you still looking to enlarge your penis? And how is that search for cheap porn DVDs coming along?”
LOL I liked that bit.
Hmm.. I just noticed the real-time preview div below. How did you do that?

Re #1: Thanks. :) It’s a slightly modified version of some fairly simple Javascript which I got ages ago from Scriptygoddess [look at my
scripts.jsfile to see the version I use].

GMail? Garbage mail as far as I am concerned. Not for me thanks.

I must admit, I like the idea of using a Gmail account purely as a spam-receiver. That works for me - not using it for anything except sites I’m not likely to visit again.

Re #4: What makes a Gmail account more suitable for this than, say, a Hotmail or Yahoo! account? [Genuine question — I’ve not heard of anything in particular that makes their spam filters superior to those that other free webmail providers have. And if anything, 1Gb of potential storage seems a bit excessive for an account you’d only use for junk mail.]

Re #5 : Absolutely nothing, except for the infantile joy of filling google/gmails servers with shit.

Re #6: Ah, good point. I’m signing up for my own account right now! ;)

Can you sign up for one yet? I read that “active” users of blogspot are being offered gmail accounts now but no-one else. Dammit, I WANT ONE!

Re #8: You could be right — I know two people who have Gmail accounts and they’re both bloggers who use Blogger. That’s enough circumstantial evidence for me. :)
