It’s back

That card is back, which makes three mis-deliveries. Just goes to show the importance of using a postcode when addressing envelopes.

Back into the system it goes…

You need to take a photograph - actually, it’s a shame you didn’t do that from the start so we could see a progression of idiocy. It makes you wonder though - the postman/lady haven’t even twigged either?

Re #1: There’s quite a mess of postmarks building up now — you’d not see much beyond a black smudge in a photograph. It would have been nice to build up a flip-book an animated gif [the geek’s flip-book] of the progress though!

And that’s the next thing I’m waiting for: the doorbell to ring one morning and the postman to say, “Is this deja vu or have I delivered this card 39 times already?”

what would happen if you changed the address? would they deliver it somewhere else - even without a stamp?

Re #6: They should do — same principal as when my mum used to forward things from London to me, or when you forward things for previous tenants to their new address [if they’ve been kind enough to leave you with one]. No stamp required.

in that case, why not keep all the envelopes you receive, and then when you need to send a letter, just write “wrong address - now at:” and then the address you want to send to…

Re #8: Yep, it’s quite possible that could work — they might be suspicious of envelopes that have been opened and resealed before being “forwarded”, but with so much of it automated these days, it’s unlikely to be noticed by anyone except the postie delivering the letter at the other end.

But [disclaimer!] I don’t recommend anyone doing this, of course. [I’m not going to be blamed for a sudden increase in the cost of stamps!]

Additional to #9: And you’d have to tell the person to whom you were supposedly forwarding mail that they should open envelopes that are apparently addressed to you — if you’ve scrubbed of your own name and written “Now called:” that might raise the suspicions of even the most apathetic postie.
