Fuddland
A late night and an early start meant I slept for the majority of the flight[s] back to the UK, although I did enjoy the treat of watching the sun rise into a cloudless sky as we flew East on the first leg of the return journey — beautiful yellows, oranges and reds slowly merging with the starry blues above.
The flight attendant was handing out immigration forms, asking “American citizen or British subject?”, to which I replied, “British citizen”, earning a look that I couldn’t quite read, but probably said, “Smartarse anti-monarchist bastard”. Or maybe he noticed the book I was reading and decided I was trouble. To gain petty revenge he ignored me when he was serving the beverages — but I didn’t want any of his ‘tea’ anyway. So ner.
It’s still only early evening according to my bodyclock, but due to the early start — and another one tomorrow to get the coach back up to the Midlands from here in London, for the final part of the trek home — I’m going to attempt to fool myself into thinking it’s bedtime.

Half two in the morning. It appears my bodyclock isn’t so easily fooled. Damn.

So you didn’t declare yourself English as this article suggests you might.

Re #2: Given my Irish father and Welsh\English mother, I don’t think I could declare myself as English even if I’d wanted to.

I also recommend “Dude, where’s my country?”. Great read.
When I went through US immigration a few years back I filled in the form as “English”. They got in a bit of a strop about it, saying I was british and whatnot. I tried to explain that the UK had devolved, etc, and that now britain didn’t exist and was three separately governed states, but they just wouldn’t have it. :o)
