Fuddland
In the UK, when a film is advertised with starting time 2pm, it usually means that’s when they start showing the adverts before the previews before the film itself, so you have a little grace period if you’re running late.
Here in the US, it generally means the main feature begins at 2pm — if you arrive later than that, you’ve missed the beginning of the film.
Good to know.

As far as I’m concerned if the film listing says it starts at a certain time everyone should be in their seats five minutes before and at the start time the doors should be locked to prevent any latecomers getting in. Also, no food, no drink, all children to be separated from other children by at least five adults, no teenagers ever, nobody’s who’s had a drink up to two hours before the film so they don’t have to get up and pee within the first crucial 15 minutes of any film, nobody intoxicated, nobody who smells, nobody with a cough, and nobody for a two seat radius around me. I think the ticket prices should cover all that. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable here.

Re #1: I completely agree [except all the criteria should apply to me, not you, obviously].
Re #2: Actually, I saw Love, Actually. Really enjoyed it, actually. :)

Bravo lump - couldn’t agree more! Although you forgot the ban on people who go to the cinema to chat!
