Fuddland

As well as the obvious mathematical link of the Mandelbrot fractal background, I made some other numerically-based design decisions when creating the new look:

  • Whilst I’m not suggesting you’ll find the answer to life, the universe and everything within the archives of my weblog, the width of the body is fixed at 42em

  • There are six main items in the navigation menu because 6 is the first perfect number, my favourite class of numbers

  • The section\weblog entry headers and footers are in the golden ratio to the width of the body [subject to rounding to a couple of decimal places]

  • The banner image is 80 by 398 pixels, again due to the golden ratio: there are 8 letters in ‘Fuddland’; 80/(398/8) gives the golden ratio [to 2 d.p.]

  • The RBG values of all the different colours used, when arranged in alphanumerical order based on their hexadecimal equivalents, form the first 1976 digits in the decimal expansion of pi [1976 being the year of my birth]

I knew it. I just knew it. I knew there had to be a logical explanation behind all this.

Happy new year, you number-crunching freak!

Loving the fractals whotsit.

Re #1: Cheers Jann, HNY to you too. But please tell me nobody believes that the last one [“The RGB values…”] is true — I’m not totally insane!

Of course…ahem…I knew that was a joke…ahem…

Actually, now that I read it properly it sounds much less plausible. Perhaps if you’d suggested (and I’d read it properly) that the hex numbers of the prime colours used on the site added up to 1976 then only people with a calculator and time on their hands would have taken issue.

Or not.
